How The Use of Cable Lubricant Must Be Considered?

When it comes to cable pulls, the use of proper cable lubrication prevents all sorts of bad luck along with the losses that come with it. The primary purpose of using a cable lubricant is to reduce tension when pulling cables while enabling the installers to keep the tension within the allowed limits. Apart from reducing the tension, using the right lubricant also brings many other benefits in doing the job.

More important than just reducing friction, the installer can also reduce the possibility of a tense, and time-consuming process of cable pulling if there is no lubrication. Just come to think of it, if the pulling goes wrong and too much friction is present, pulling the cable harder can make the case even worse. So, rather than pulling the cable free, without lubrication, it will end up jammed. Now, you are not just causing damage to the cable but also making it costly because of the extraction needed.

This is where it is always a better decision to use a cable lubricant as a preventive measure. It is less costly and helps ensure a successful and more efficient cable installation process. However, considering proper lubrication is not just simply selecting and using the lubricant to use. It is suggested that you do this by considering lubrication in carefully thought of steps which include the following.

1. Plan: this means you need to know the allowable tension for a certain pull. It entails determining the kind of lubricant required and how much of it to use, as well as how to apply the product on the cable. These things must be clearly determined first.

2. Measure: it is highly advised that you use a wire-pulling tension gage. You can do this by considering a high quality solution that involves using a software that you can open from a laptop when working on the project.

3. Control: this could mean varying the cable pulling force and lube feed to control the tension within the allowed limits only.

Finally, while a general-purpose cable lubricant does a good job for a broad range of applications, a specific-purpose lubricant works great for certain applications, making the job go more smoothly.
