Where to Charge Your EV

There are a plethora of benefits in owning an electric vehicle or EV but ownership also comes with the responsibility of taking care of it. One aspect is knowing the possible places where you can charge your EV and how to behave when you are in public places. Here are the three major EV charger locations you should take note of.

At Home: nowadays, the bulk of EV charging is performed at home and overnight. This is because it is the time when electricity is at its cheapest price. If you own a battery-electric vehicle, it is best to have a charging port in your garage. If you have a hybrid EV, you can also use the 120-volt charging cord.

At Work: with the ultimate concern on sustainability and going green, companies are now installing EV charger stations in their offices as part of the perks they are giving their employees. Thus, charging at work has been growing lately because it is really not that expensive to install. Some may be charging their employees but others don’t.

At Public Sites: lastly, there are also hundreds and even thousands of public charging stations all throughout the U.S.A. and Canada. Almost all public sites offer Level 2 charging while some provide DC fast charging, too. Some public charging stations are for free while others charge a fee. It is best if you have an application that can help you locate and identify the stations where you can charge your EV.

If you are charging in public stations, there are some points of etiquette to keep in mind so that your fellow EV drivers will not be left out. The biggest thing to ensure is that you don’t occupy the space much longer than it needs your car to recharge. Also, if you cannot get back to your vehicle to unplug once it is complete with recharging, make sure to leave a note for other EV drivers. Your note may say something like this, “please unplug the cable when the green light on my dashboard is flashing.”
