With its high versatility, polyethylene foam is the best product for a number of applications. Also known as PE foam, it is one of the most used but least recognized, more often forgotten packing materials available in the market. From packaging and protection products to masonry supplies and vibration dampers, PE is used without our knowledge most of the time. PE is a closed-cell foam material, meaning its structure is comprised of millions of very tiny little air bubbles that are closely sealed together. This specific composition makes the foam very resistant to moisture and water as well as solvents and other chemicals. It also has antimicrobial properties, preventing the growth of bacteria, mould, and mildew.

 

With great elasticity, the polyethylene foam reshapes itself after compression, while still capable of providing cushion and protection where it is used for. With these qualities, along with its versatility and customization abilities, PE foam is very useful in diverse applications.

 

PE Foam Formulation

 

Created from heating polymeric compounds, PE foam is formulated using additives to change its properties before finally heated to its solid-state form. This formulation makes the foam antistatic and fire retardant, too. And because the additives are already included in the formula, the desired properties become more consistent than adding them after the material has been created.

 

Just like any other foam material, PE foam also comes in different densities suitable for various applications. The higher the density of the material, the smaller and thicker their cell walls are, producing a stronger foam material.

 

Lastly, the antistatic characteristics of the polyethylene foam make it ideal for packaging, handling and transportation of fragile and intricate electronic products. The foam dissipates the electrostatic charges that can accumulate and damage product components. Thus, PE foam is widely used by packaging manufacturers.
