Different Wire Meshes Based On Materials

If you are not so familiar with a wire mesh, it is simply a form of barrier created by connecting strands of metals and other materials. It appears like a web or net that is made of interwoven wires. Depending on the specific type of material used, a mesh is classified into different types, including the following.

 

  • Plastic mesh: obviously, this mesh is made from plastic materials such as nylon, PVC, polypropylene, or polyethylene.
  • Metal mesh: also called wire mesh, this can be made from various metals, such as steel, brass, aluminum, copper, brass, and so on. Each of these metals gives the mesh its unique physical and chemical properties that are helpful in many industrial applications.
  • Fiberglass mesh: this kind of mesh has a clean, crisscross woven pattern made of fiberglass thread. It is often used in manufacturing reinforced adhesive tape, filtration components, and similar applications.

 

A mesh that is made from metal can compete through different methods such as electroformed, knitted, woven, expanded, or photochemically etched. Here are the common metals used in making a wire mesh.

 

  • Carbon steel mesh: this mesh is a very versatile, strong, but affordable option to consider. For more protection against corrosion, carbon steel mesh can be coated with PVC coating or galvanized.
  • Brass mesh: wire mesh made from brass is malleable, and soft, yet resistant to abrasion. Also, it has high tensile strength for heavy industrial applications. Better yet, with its attractive color, it makes a fantastic option for creative projects.
  • Copper mesh: this mesh is very common for artistic and residential applications. It provides durability, malleability, ductility, high electrical and thermal conductivity. 
  • Stainless steel mesh: this wire mesh offers the highest resistance to corrosion and rust formation, making it perfect for various industrial applications.
  • Aluminum mesh: the key advantage of aluminum is its lightweight and high resistance to corrosion. Hence, it’s the ideal option for applications involving the industries of automotive, marine, and aerospace.
